OUR CHARTER

Trafficking

The UN Palermo Protocol on Human Trafficking (1) defines trafficking as:

  • the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people by means of
  • the threat or use of force, coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, the abuse of power, the abuse of a position of vulnerability, the giving or receiving of payments or benefits
  • to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person
  • for the purpose of exploitation, including prostitution, sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude, or the removal of organs.

The Goals of STOP THE TRAFFIK

  1. STT aims are to prevent the trade, protect the victims, and prosecute the traffickers.
  2. STT is a global campaign to make people aware of trafficking and involve them in the solutions through their daily lives, and operates at international, national, local community and individual level.
  3. STT campaigning intends to create Active Communities against Trafficking through raising awareness and engaging in action.
  4. STT strives to stop people trafficking in any profession and industry.

AS A MEMBER OF STOP THE TRAFFIK I COMMIT TO:

  1. Work to fulfil the goals of the campaign according to the stated values of STOP THE TRAFFIK
  2. Work in collaboration and partnership with other members where greater impact can be achieved and to do so in a spirit of mutual respect.
  3. Share the resources in the area of anti-human trafficking for the benefit of other organisations.
  4. Work for the benefit of those who have been or potentially might be the victims of trafficking in the future.

The Values of STOP THE TRAFFIK

STOP THE TRAFFIK is an inclusive campaign and campaign activity shall not discriminate on grounds of race, sexual orientation or creed.

STOP THE TRAFFIK believes that it is a human right that every person is free from slavery.

STOP THE TRAFFIK takes a victim - centered approach seeing those who have been caught in this crime in need of protection and restoration.

STOP THE TRAFFIK values the contribution that people and their communities can make to stop trafficking.

STOP THE TRAFFIK will strive to only publish facts and figures that are accurate bearing in mind the challenge of any statistics on human trafficking is that they are only best estimates.

STOP THE TRAFFIK will find innovative ways to raise awareness on the issue of trafficking and in providing possible active participation in the campaign.
