BACKGROUND TO THE GLOBAL FUND
Most of all, we are looking to support projects which are willing to network and co-operate together to establish an effective, comprehensive and multi-dimensional approach.
All people trafficking is a journey.
First there is deception or coercion—a man or woman comes to the village or to a neighbourhood in a city and offers wonderful opportunities for a child or for a woman, or for a man—a chance for an education or to find a job. Then, there is movement—it could be from a poor area to a richer city. It could be from a poorer country into a richer one. Finally there is always exploitation in forced prostitution or forced labour, accompanied by violence, threats and the removal of liberty.
The STOP THE TRAFFIK Global Fund will also look at trafficking as a journey. The fund:
- gives money to projects which, across a major trafficking route will be able to network together, comprehensively fighting people trafficking on all fronts.
- finances awareness-raising and community development in the most vulnerable areas in order to reduce the incidence of people trafficking.
- funds projects which cut at the roots of this global crime by giving education, vocational training and micro finance to those most at risk.
- finances projects that run early intervention and rescue programs, safe houses, and the training of frontline professionals as they seek to bring traffickers to justice.
- finances projects which, along this same trafficking route, are reintegrating trafficking survivors, offering care, counseling, and also vocational training and microfinance to survivors, breaking the cycle of abuse.
