STOP THE TRAFFIK use ban on Oxford street advertising to highlight issue of human traffiking
The shocking issue of human trafficking is being brought to the attention of Londoners with a dramatic stunt on Oxford Street by the charity STOP THE TRAFFIK.
STOP THE TRAFFIK is a global movement working to combat the fastest-growing global crime, people trafficking. It has over 1000 member organisations in 50 countries and a grass roots following of activists around the world.
The stunt, created by Saatchi & Saatchi X (the activational arm of Saatchi & Saatchi) dramatically highlights the fact that human beings are being treated as commodities—something to be bought, sold, and enslaved. Last year, 330 children were identified as trafficking victims and 4000 women were trafficked into the UK for sexual exploitation.
On the final weekday before a ban on 'GOLF SALE' banner advertising in Westminster, activists from STOP THE TRAFFIK will be out on Oxford Street with similar advertising - but for a 'HUMAN SALE'. They'll be handing out flyers for the 'HUMAN SALE' which advertise 'A great selection of humans, new and used, imported from all around the world.' The flyer provides a price list of the kinds of humans available for sale.
The stunt will take place on Friday 8th August 2008 from 11am-5pm on Oxford Street. The Westminster Council ban omes into place on Monday 11th August. Pictures will be emailed to media contacts on Friday afternoon.
