WHAT WE’VE ACHIEVED SO FAR

FREEDOM IS WELL ON ITS WAY SO FAR!

DEVELOPMENTS:

  • In October 2009
STOP THE TRAFFIK launched the Start Freedom project from the United Nations headquarters in New York in partnership with UN.GIFT, to educate young people worldwide about human trafficking

  • Between October 2009 and March 2010
3,300 people from 97 countries registered to download resources online; the website has had 21,000 unique visitors accessing resources in over 10 languages

  • In March 2010
We celebrated START FREEDOM WEEK during which young people shared their freedom adventures with their community through street theatre, film, dance, art, writing and photographs. Check out the video and photo galleries.

We hosted the world’s first GLOBAL CLASSROOM on Human Trafficking and saw 180 young people from across 5 continents interact with each other and with experts to learn more about human trafficking and what they could do about it in their communities.

Using the internet the young people answered thought-provoking questions in response to real life stories and were able to empathise with young survivors of trafficking.

WHAT NEXT?

Through the global classroom we have taken a significant step in enabling young people world wide to learn together, discuss the issues with anti-trafficking experts and become committed to taking the next step to STOP THE TRAFFIK! But the Global Classroom has no limit on class size and with your donation we can reach hundreds of thousands more young people to engage in this experience. We will adapt and expand this project to empower young people in vulnerable groups and communities in low income countries through cooperating with NGOs.
