Scholarship Programme for displaced Ukrainians

In 2022, STOP THE TRAFFIK Group and The International Compliance Association launched a unique scholarship programme for displaced Ukrainians.

This programme seeks to serve those whose reality is the experience of being forced to move away from home: to be displaced.

This training offers an opportunity to learn and become active in stopping the flow of the proceeds of crime, particularly in relation to human trafficking. We hope that this opportunity can help rebuild lives and empower those who are from Ukraine.

At STOP THE TRAFFIK Group, we support initiatives to upskill Ukrainians so they can find legitimate employment. This meets our objectives of reducing the recruitment of individuals into exploitative work.

We are also keen to upskill individuals in financial crime analysis, to support careers in this sector where human trafficking can be detected in money flows and, ultimately, disrupted and prevented.

So far, we’ve supported 7 displaced Ukrainians through this scholarship. One course-finisher said:

I am very grateful for the opportunity to take this course. Yesterday I successfully passed the last test. In this training, I learned both the basic principles of AML and the various features of financial instruments used in money laundering. It was very interesting to learn about the different ways of money laundering, especially deposits, securities, insurance, gambling, etc. It is so exciting that I can use this knowledge right now.

ICA and ACAMS certificates are the most valuable. This ICA anti-money laundering certificate is a good start to my other achievements. I want not to stop and develop further. I hope that I will have the opportunity to do some more ICA and/or ACAMS trainings.

Recently, we spoke to a military veteran from Ukraine who had moved to the UK with his family a few months ago. He explained to us how this scholarship can help him change his life:

As a Ukrainian lawyer with over 12 years of experience in banking litigation, I have come to realise that there are no opportunities for me to work in a litigation role in the UK. Since the UK has a different legal system, my previous experience and knowledge hold no value here. Therefore, it was essential for me to reskill myself as soon as possible in order to secure a job.

Local professionals suggested that the best option for me would be to obtain a qualification in the compliance sphere and leverage my legal and corporate background. Thanks to the STOP THE TRAFFIK Group scholarship, I received the opportunity to gain knowledge in compliance, receive a certificate issued by the International Compliance Association, and demonstrate my commitment to further development to potential employers.

I am grateful to STOP THE TRAFFIK for this opportunity. Your support is truly vital for individuals who must start from scratch in the UK.

Eligible applicants will be able to study the ICA Certificate in Anti-Money Laundering, an introductory-level, online course covering money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and sanctions risk.

All you need to do is email: [email protected]  with the subject line ‘ICA Certificate in AML – STT scholarship. We will then provide you with the application form and the next steps. There’s absolutely no cost involved and once you’ve filled in the form, you should be able to get started quickly!
