STOP THE TRAFFIK is a pioneer in human trafficking prevention. Working to unite people around the world by inspiring, informing, equipping and mobilising communities to know what human trafficking is, know how to identify it and know how to respond appropriately if they saw it.
Utilising the power of people and technology, STOP THE TRAFFIK are working to prevent human trafficking globally through our innovative Intelligence-led approach.
Through radical information sharing and collaboration, STOP THE TRAFFIK aim to build a global picture of human trafficking hotspots and trends, to empower individuals, organisations and agencies to make more informed and better choices, to signpost them to safe places to get help and support and to encourage appropriate response and reporting.
By shining a light on this hidden crime, we can change the environment and increase the risk to the trafficker and the safety of the vulnerable.
As essential as rescue and rehabilitation are to those who find themselves caught in this crime, and as essential as it is to prosecute those who commit them, we will never rescue or prosecute our way out of this global evil. The solution is prevention, across and throughout all sectors, building communities resilient to human trafficking. ~ Ruth Dearnley OBE, CEO.
STOP THE TRAFFIK was founded in 2006 as a campaign coalition to bring an end to human trafficking worldwide. The two year campaign coincided with the bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act 1807 and aimed to make known the largely hidden crime, create a network of advocates and join together to take action against human trafficking in our communities globally.
After overwhelming activist support from around the world, we presented 1.5 million signatures to the UN in February 2008, making a strong statement that this crime can not and will not be ignored.
Despite the tremendous work by so many in the sector, global estimates on human trafficking show the crime increasing not decreasing. From 2008 we have been creating a world where people aren’t bought and sold. As important as it is to rescue victims and prosecute traffickers, we will never put an end to human trafficking if that’s all we do. We need to prevent.
Join us as we together STOP THE TRAFFIK.
